They were once the brightest “sisterhood of six” in Class 2, Senior Year, at Haishi Normal High School: radiant young girls who promised to be friends for life.
Yet just a few short years after graduation, a curse seemed to descend upon them. One by one, the members met with disaster, as if an invisible hand were erasing them from the world.
Five “accidents” spanning many years, with deaths that chillingly corresponded to a Five Elements destiny reading from their high school days. After linking the cases, police in their registered hometown of Haishi realized with horror that they were facing a suffocatingly clear pattern. Was this an ancient curse coming true, or was a meticulous serial killer with a deep knowledge of the Five Elements committing a series of perfectly ritualized crimes?
Fang Miao, the only survivor of the sisterhood, is beautiful and accomplished, a star student in the chemistry department at Haijiao University. As she endures the immense grief of losing her closest friends one after another, is she the next victim, or the center of this deadly vortex? With everyone’s eyes fixed on her, she appears so fragile and helpless, like the last pristine gardenia in need of protection amid a storm.
The police struggle forward through the fog, while the sole survivor seems to be hiding a crucial secret. As the veil of truth is peeled back layer by layer, what cruel past and unfathomable darkness of human nature lie buried beneath those seemingly innocent, spotless years of youth?
Floating White, Clear as Water: for whom is this cup raised in memory of youth?
Recommended to all friends who love to watch suspense stories. The Five Elements are not labels, but are really closely tied to the fate of the characters. It is hardcore and full of oriental mystery, which impressed me deeply.
