A Wedding Emergency in Beijing

[Beijing elite circle + older man/younger woman + marriage first, love later + he chases his wife and learns to cherish her + devoted to each other + HE]

[An unconventional heiress with a million thoughts in her head vs. a brooding big shot whose schemes are longer than his life]

The night He Lingsheng asked for a divorce, Wen Qian agreed without hesitation.

If she couldn't save her marriage, then she'd go back to being the bright, free-spirited woman she used to be.

She shed the poise and repression of being "Mrs. He" and let herself go completely.

But her soon-to-be ex-husband started acting more and more strangely.

Wen Qian opened an upscale male model club.

He Lingsheng immediately bought a 51% stake. "You keep the profits. I'll cover the losses."

Wen Qian sang her heart out on the terrace and got complaints.

He Lingsheng magnanimously bought the two buildings on either side. "I've taken care of the neighbors. From now on, sing as much as you like."

She was dumbfounded.

Only later did she understand that the love he'd hidden behind their polite, distant marriage was clumsy yet profound.

This divorce had been his plan from beginning to end.

Once all their misunderstandings were cleared up, they were happier than ever.

But then an unexpected turn of events nearly broke Wen Qian.

As she looked into He Lingsheng's anguished, red-rimmed eyes, all she wanted was to escape.

A year later, by the banks of the Seine,

a black umbrella appeared over her head amid the patter of rain.

He Lingsheng walked Wen Qian back to her rented apartment, then turned around and opened the door next door. He became her neighbor.

The once-proud man at the very top of the pyramid had tears in his eyes.

"Qianqian, I've given you everything I have. Could you... give yourself back to me?"
