I Defend the Coast in the Late Ming Dynasty

A great Song clan from the southwestern frontier fled as a family, crossing the sea to Dongfan. In official Ming documents, “Dongfan” was commonly used to refer to Taiwan. The name Taiwan derives from Dayuan, the name used for the indigenous Siraya people of the Tainan and Anping area. One of the clan's sons was named Song Jue. He was thirteen years old, quick-witted and composed. He had gone to sea with fishermen since childhood, and was dark-skinned and strongly built.
