I’m Lin Shouren, a folklore professor who does fortune-telling livestreams on the side to earn some extra cash.
I never expected a viewer to connect with me during a livestream, only for it to turn out to be a death-dealing ghost messenger.
The first viewer told me he’d dreamed of a man in yellow. On the third day, he jumped off a building with a strange grin on his face.
The second viewer had barely drawn the talisman from his dream when he gouged out his own eyeballs in front of everyone.
The livestream chat flooded with messages saying, “This streamer is cursed.” The police listed me as their prime suspect.
Then I received a death warning from a garbled number: “Professor, you’re the next sacrifice.”
And on my copy of The Netherworld Records, blood-red words appeared:
[Those who see the man in yellow will die within three days. The next to see him will die within seven.]
I looked at the three-hundred-year-old account sitting at the top of the tipping leaderboard, and at the flood of comments urging me to livestream my “death,” and smiled.
You want me to be the sacrifice? Then let’s turn this fake fortune-teller into a real medium!
That night, during the livestream, I burned the yellow talisman in front of the camera:
“Yellow-robed one, get out here and join the stream.”
“Let’s see when your soul will be scattered for good.”
