After transmigrating to the cultivation world three years ago, Shen Changqing had gained neither a golden finger nor anything but a good-for-nothing physique. He had planned to lie low in a Daoist temple until he died of old age, until one day, in pursuit of a bargain, he climbed Soulbreak Cliff to scavenge the remains of two fallen grandmasters.
Instead, the entire martial world caught him in the act.
In Shen Changqing’s eyes: His legs were shaking with fear, which meant “the terror of being caught red-handed”; his face had stiffened with nerves, which meant “social anxiety kicking in”; and when he accidentally crushed that rusty iron sword, it was just “a lousy weapon trying to frame me.”
But in the eyes of the entire martial world: His stillness was “the indifference of one who sees all beings as ants”; his silence was “the profoundness of the Great Dao, which needs no words”; and crushing a divine weapon with his bare hands was “supreme power, perfected to the point of seeming ordinary”!
Overnight, Shen Changqing became the legendary “Venerable of Annihilation.” The Demon Cult’s holy son wept and begged to serve as his cook; the leader of the righteous sects fought until they were bloody over a bucket of water he’d used to wash his feet; and a peerless empress blushed after merely meeting his gaze, convinced it was a promise written on the Three Lives Stone.
Shen Changqing was at his wits’ end:
“I explained it was all a misunderstanding, but they insisted I was testing their Daoist hearts.”
“I tried to run away, and they said I was using ‘shrinking the world to an inch’ to measure the universe.”
“Even when I sneeze, they think it’s a warning from the Heavenly Dao!”
Since there’s no explaining it… this venerable one will stop pretending.
