The Genius Magistrate’s Case Files

What is a county clerk? A county clerk is an aide to the magistrate of Chang'an County.

From the moment he was born, Deng Zhi was branded a calamity for the Great Zhou. In a single night, he fell from being a genius scholar at the Imperial College to a convict slave in Jianzhang Palace in Chang'an. He was sixteen that year. Hoping to escape Jianzhang Palace, he was unexpectedly chosen by Li Yu, the magistrate of Chang'an, to investigate a case and became a county clerk. Before long, he was repeatedly swept into the court's treacherous power struggles. The Great Zhou's mysterious assassin organization, the Dark Night, set its sights on him and created one seemingly insurmountable predicament after another.

After the tragic death of Li Yu, the magistrate of Chang'an, and relentless pressure from the Great Zhou's highest officials, Deng Zhi decisively abandoned his old image as a greedy, selfish man. He met his enemies head-on and joined forces with his former brothers to expose the Chancellor and Great General's conspiracy once and for all, then cut down the hidden hand behind the Dark Night. Just as the new emperor ascended the throne, Deng Zhi hoped to return to his hometown and live in seclusion.
