During the prosperous Tang Dynasty, Li Yan, the son of a family in a remote border town, loses both his parents. He later meets Patriarch Bodhi by chance and learns the supreme Way. Through their days together, Li Yan comes to regard his master as his own father. But his senior fellow disciple, Xuanye, proves treacherous and harms Patriarch Bodhi. After enduring countless hardships, Li Yan finally attains the true Way and frees his master.
