"The Legend of Taoist Priest Yu Mao" focuses on the growth of young Yu Mao as a doctor. From the first snow of Zhongnan Mountain to the fog of Chang'an, and then to the secret place to find secluded places, he witnesses the sufferings of troubled times along the way. Based on the wisdom of the Huangdi Neijing, he used Taoist medicine to balance yin and yang, and he also used Taoist philosophy to heal people's hearts. The story combines medical theory, philosophy and feelings of helping the world, and shows a Taoist doctor's difficult pursuit of "healing the body is to heal the world" amidst natural and man-made disasters.

From "seeking immortality against the will of heaven" to "keeping track of life", from "rescuing emergencies in troubled times" to "returning to the mountain to pass on the legacy", Yumao's growth trajectory is in line with Taoism's "return to nature": he left the mountain in his youth to seek "governing the world", realized "governing the mind" in middle age, and returned to "governing oneself" in his later years. He finally realized that "the way of medicine is the way of humanity, and the way of humanity is the way of heaven". The great truth is not in the classics, but in the reverence and protection of life every time.
