On her way back to her rented apartment, Xia Wei finds a two-month-old Labrador puppy on the verge of death beside a garbage station. It is suffering from both parvovirus and distemper, soaked through and glassy-eyed. At that moment, despite having just lost her job and being behind on rent, she resolutely takes the puppy home. She names it Lucky, because meeting it is good fortune, and having it is a blessing.
From then on, the girl and her dog depend on each other for survival in Beijing, a city that is both cold and scorching. The pandemic strikes, lockdowns and quarantines follow, the early childhood education industry collapses, and her dreams of making a life in Beijing fall apart. In her darkest moments, Lucky sustains Xia Wei with unconditional loyalty and a fierce will to live. After the lockdown ends, she takes Lucky and leaves Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou behind, returning to her hometown of Nanchang. Starting out with a night-market stall, she tells warm stories about people and pets through handmade accessories and founds the Hello Lucky Creative Studio. Along the way, she meets Lin Song, a calm and rational dog trainer with a hidden tenderness. He understands Lucky's every move, and sees the stubbornness in Xia Wei's eyes.
This is not only a story of a girl and a dog saving each other, but also a tale of leaving Beijing and returning home, about faith, being reborn, and love.
