Officer, Come a Little Closer

A knife’s edge and a scalpel, an operating room at night and a street in the rain: two entirely different worlds brought together by an injury.

Criminal investigator Li Muran is used to facing danger alone, her calm restraint a shield, until surgeon Lin Shengyuan appears before her wound. Warm and perceptive, Lin Shengyuan quietly accepts all her sharp edges. Small acts of tenderness gradually open Li Muran’s tightly closed heart, stirring feelings she has never known in someone who has spent years immersed in the cold world of criminal cases.

Their quiet time together is shattered by a string of murders, and the clues point one by one toward Lin Shengyuan. Li Muran must uphold her duty and pursue the truth, even as she refuses to believe that the woman she has fallen for is hiding secrets. Beneath the layers of confusion, she glimpses the shattered past beneath Lin Shengyuan’s gentle exterior.

When the truth comes to light, Lin Shengyuan looks up at the tense policewoman and softly invites her closer: “You don’t have to keep your distance and test me, Officer Li. Come a little closer, and I’ll tell you.”
