She was a green lotus before the Buddha, listening to the sutras for a thousand years, her spirit clear and serene.
To complete her final act of merit, she willingly stepped into the turbulent mortal world to undergo trials and cultivate herself.
The human world is the greatest place of spiritual practice. In this world of suffering, we meet those we love only to part, are separated from those we resent, and cannot obtain what we desire. All living beings suffer.
With clear-sighted eyes and a compassionate heart, she guided deluded souls onward, soothed the resentments they had accumulated, and reunited severed bonds.
Not to display her holiness, but to help the lost find their way home and let those mired in suffering glimpse the light.
When her boundless merits were complete, heavenly maidens scattered flowers, and Buddhist chants rang through the sky. She looked back one last time at the mortal world, and wherever her gaze fell, the land had become a pure lotus paradise.
This life was over; her heart was without blemish. She departed upon a golden lotus, and in the Western Pure Land, flowers opened to reveal the Buddha, and she attained the patience of non-arising.
