The Splendid Brocade Canopy

On her wedding day, with red candles blazing, Shen Ruojin, the valiant daughter of a military family, receives not the arrival of her betrothed, Pei Jing, but news that he has eloped with her half-sister. As the guests whisper among themselves, this woman, trained in martial arts since childhood and determined to make her mark on the world, remains unfazed. She points at Qin Lang, lounging carelessly among the crowd. "Since Pei Jing has abandoned me, then today Qin Lang will become my husband." Qin Lang is the notorious troublemaker everyone in the capital avoids, and Pei Jing's brother-in-law. When Pei Jing hears the news and rushes back, he sneers. "Shen Ruojin, you're marrying a wastrel just to spite me? You'll regret sacrificing your future for a moment's pride!"

Yet no one knows that this marriage is part of Shen Ruojin's return, reborn. In her previous life, trusting Pei Jing led to her family's destruction and her own death under false accusations. Reborn on her wedding day with all her memories intact, she swears to change her fate. Her marriage to Qin Lang is meant to be one move in her revenge plan, and they agree to divorce after a year. But after their wedding, her seemingly dissolute husband reveals a side of himself no one knew: when others make things difficult for her, he overturns the banquet; when she heads to the border, he secretly arranges supplies; when she is targeted for assassination, he lays waste to the enemy camp. When Shen Ruojin reminds Qin Lang of their agreement to divorce after a year, he places the military seal and imperial jade seal in her hands. "What divorce? The realm you want, I'll win it for you. And for the rest of my life, I'll belong to you alone."

As court intrigues intertwine with battles at the border, Shen Ruojin gradually discovers that Qin Lang's true identity is that of a surviving descendant of the previous dynasty, while Pei Jing's elopement conceals a greater conspiracy: a plot to overthrow the imperial throne. Defying a society that forbids women from taking part in politics, Shen Ruojin draws on the memories of her previous life and Qin Lang...
