The Corpse Ferryman

In the years of the Republic, Shen Ye is collecting the body of someone who died unjustly when he is unexpectedly swept into the fate of ferrying souls between the realms of yin and yang. One of his three souls and seven spirits is taken, making him a ferryman who is half human and half ghost. At dusk, he must escort vengeful spirits to the underworld, or his own lifespan will keep shrinking. He joins the mysterious Soul Ferry Pavilion and learns forbidden arts for controlling paper figures and communicating with spirits. As warlords clash and evil forces run rampant, he moves through a chaotic world: breaking the curse of live human sacrifice in an ancient town, exposing a warlord's scheme to cultivate power with the flesh of the Tai Sui, and navigating the forces of the Red Lantern Society and the Underworld Walkers. The laws of physics are warped in this world, and the ghosts and monsters of folklore are all real. Shen Ye hunts evil spirits to steal their yang energy and prolong his life, while searching for a way to restore his soul. But he discovers that he is the reincarnation of an ancient Yin Deity, and that the world's rot began when someone deliberately destroyed the passage between the underworld and the human realm. In the end, he gathers the scattered pieces of his soul, awakens the power of the Yin Deity, restores order between yin and yang, and becomes the Ferryman Heavenly Emperor who commands reincarnation.
