Beneath the Star Tracks, I Alone Wear the Crown

When 26-year-old Lin Wei walked into a top animation studio with international awards under her belt and a burning dream in her heart, she thought a vast creative world awaited her. Instead, she ran into a silent wall. There were three “mentors” here: one used “the rules” to tell her to rein in her talent, one hid his covetousness for the ideas in her head behind “friendliness,” and one used “jokes” to deny her worth because of her gender. Her talent was seen as a threat, her ideas were stolen with ease, and her passion was on the verge of going out after repeated subtle offenses and systematic suppression. This was no simple workplace rivalry. It was a fight for survival, forced upon a genius woman in a game whose rules were made by men. But this time, she chose not to stay silent. She rallied others who had been pushed to the margins: technical geniuses dismissed as “unsociable,” screenwriters criticized for being “too artsy,” and other disillusioned outsiders who were about to become the brightest agents of change. When the most important project in the company’s history, Shan Hai Fantasy, got underway, everyone was waiting to see her fail. Lin Wei strode into the pitch meeting with a groundbreaking work. She was fighting for more than the right to direct a project: she was fighting for the voice and dignity of all women creators. This was not just a genius’s victory, but the collapse of an old order and the dawn of a new era. Watch Lin Wei navigate the jungle of a prejudiced industry, not to be crowned, but to place that crown of thorns on her own head.
