Through the absurd experience of the protagonist Dai Minghui being forced to "pretend to be deaf", it explores information overload, interpersonal alienation, the boundaries between truth and lies in modern society, as well as the individual's struggle between power and conscience. It seems to be a hearing impairment, but it is actually a mental and world barrier.
