Ma Sui, the Golden-Hooped Immortal of the Jie Sect, is a Quasi-Saint who keeps a remnant scroll of the Jie Sect's origin hidden behind the scenes. At Kunlun, he taught Sun Wukong secret techniques of the Jie Sect and helped him attain divine abilities. Using the Journey to the West as cover, Ma Sui secretly set his plans in motion: he helped Wukong break free beneath Five Elements Mountain, gathered remnants of the Jie Sect and demon forces at Yellow Wind Ridge, and recruited the Black Bear Spirit, Yellow Wind Monster, and others; he enlightened the Curtain-Raising General at the Flowing Sand River, reclaimed the Jie Sect's supreme treasure at Golden Cudgel Mountain, and collected magical artifacts such as the Purple-Gold Gourd at Flat-Top Mountain, consolidating his forces step by step.
Skilled at divination and calculation, he used the pilgrimage team to disrupt the plans of the Daoist and Buddhist sects, reap merit, purify the Jie Sect's legacy treasures, and expose the hypocrisy of the Buddhist sect and the injustice of the Celestial Court. As his power grew, Ma Sui challenged the Daoist and Buddhist monopoly, setting his sights on Spirit Mountain. He sought to reclaim the suppressed fragments of Tongtian's origin, and ultimately used merit and the remnant scroll of the sect's origin to attain the Dao against the odds, becoming the Seventh Profound Ultimate Sage, reshaping the order of the Three Realms and restoring the glory of the Jie Sect.
