The protagonist is a top-tier archaeological prodigy. An accident during an excavation leaves him blind, but also grants him the ability to “see within” the threads of history. He becomes the most unusual “Restorer” in the Nightwatch organization. Nightwatch handles operations, containment, and combat in the outside world. Restorers are far rarer: they can enter the mental worlds of “strange objects” and repair the historical “inscriptions” at their core, putting an end to disasters at their source. Restorers are detectives of knowledge and physicians of history. The story follows a series of events, from his first restoration to the later forging of contracts with the gods.
