A salary of five thousand a month, with a life worth less than paper. For two million a year, Fang He takes a bizarre house-sitting job: move into an old mansion surrounded by abandoned graves.

Only then does Fang He realize how cruel the book's rules are: he can't stop writing. If he stops, he dies.
And Nezha, the first being he created, is egging him on to write a second god, looking downright menacing:
“Get writing. Just wait till that unlucky newcomer arrives. I'll show him who's boss!”
