Crisis in Ice City

Sacrifice and betrayal: A Nationalist secret service operation to blow up a Japanese military supply depot ends in disaster, leaving the team nearly wiped out. Chen Lin, the secret service’s “Lone Star operative in charge,” sits in a police station office and calmly gives Koji Ida the team’s escape route over the phone, watching as the pieces on the map are picked off one by one. His face remains expressionless, but his clenched fists dig his nails into his palms. His Nationalist secret service identity is no disguise. In the early days, to gain a foothold and earn trust, he had no choice but to give the enemy genuine intelligence, leading to the deaths of some secret service agents and members of our Party’s outer circle. This indefensible “gray past,” this “original sin,” is his greatest torment, and the source of the other factions’ doubts about him and his own inner struggle.
