In troubled times, Du Banshan, an ordinary little man with a poor childhood and a destroyed home, used his optimistic humor and absurd wisdom to make friends with a group of similarly homeless people, evading war and capture while enjoying misery. After experiencing drifting, betrayal and unexpected death, they repeatedly searched for hope and supported each other in despair. In the three volumes, the protagonist escapes from a foreign land, gets involved in rivers and lakes and fights with officers and soldiers, and finally discovers the meaning of his growth in the burning world, bringing glimmer of light to everyone around him. The story uses a compact and bright narrative to depict warm and true friendship, growth and hope in an absurd and chaotic world.
