The story is set in Chang'an of the Tang Dynasty. The scholar Lu Bai originally wanted to live a plain life, but due to a farce involving a battle in the imperial city, he met Song Yao, a highly skilled medical doctor, and Zhang Boyou, who smiled with tears in his eyes. The three of them went from the alleys of the city to the government temple, and became intricately entangled with the powerful Xiao Dingyuan, the heroine Liu Shiniang and others. During this period, there were a lot of jokes and dangers. With his wit and humor, Lu Bai uncovered the undercurrent of Chang'an's conspiracy step by step, connected the marketplace, rivers and lakes, and temples, and finally understood the true meaning of life in a duel with power, and created his own heroic legend with his smile and faith. The book is divided into three volumes: "The Storm in the Market", "The Storm in the Temple", and "The Return of the Rivers and Lakes". Each volume is both independent and echoes from beginning to end, showing the ups and downs of life of growth, friendship, love and power struggle.
