From Beijing Back to the Countryside

I worked as a nanny in Beijing for eight years. My son got married and had a child, and though I hated to leave, I had no choice but to return home and help care for the baby. After getting used to life in the big city, I was back in the poor countryside. Looking at my dust-covered fellow villagers, I couldn’t help comparing them with the people in Beijing. The contrast left me feeling terribly out of place.
