Synopsis:
A gentle, clearheaded woman returning to her hometown vs. the village’s cockiest factory heir
Shen Nuannuan quits her job and moves back home, hoping for a peaceful life running a little bookstore.
Her neighbor, Gu Yan, is the village’s “Yan God,” the factory heir, and the man everyone counts on for weddings and funerals, yet he treats her coldly.
Then she notices the complicated, restrained look in Gu Yan’s eyes whenever he sees her best friend, Lin Shu.
Shen Nuannuan suddenly understands: all this awkwardness from the big shot is because he has a secret crush on my best friend!
She immediately becomes his biggest supporter, quietly cheering on this “unrequited love” and deciding to give him a hand when the moment comes.
So when Gu Yan is forced to team up with her for a yangge dance, she quietly gives Lin Shu the center spot;
when the aunties in the Gu family urge him to get married, she enthusiastically praises Lin Shu for being beautiful and virtuous.
Until one day, Gu Yan can’t take it anymore. He corners her by the production line at his family’s factory, his eyes red with anger.
“Shen Nuannuan, I helped your family harvest rice and fought people on your behalf. The whole village thinks you’re my wife! And you’ve done nothing but push me away?”
Shen Nuannuan: “...Huh? What else was I supposed to do?”
Gu Yan grits his teeth. “You clueless little rabbit, you’re the one I’ve liked all along!”
