Xiao Lingyue, the seventh princess of the Great Jing, is the apple of the royal family’s eye, but she refuses to be confined to a gilded cage in the palace. She carries a secret, is exceptionally clever, and possesses formidable martial skills. To investigate an old case connected to her mother, she devises a clever way to escape the palace and enters the treacherous world of the jianghu.
On her first foray into the jianghu, she encounters Su Ling’er, a young woman from the Blazing Fire Sect who is being hunted by the Black Wind Hall. Xiao Lingyue steps in to help, and the two become allies. She also stumbles upon traces of the mysterious Shadow Pavilion, a key lead in her investigation. As she travels south, she uses her remarkable wits to overcome one crisis after another: intimidating thugs in Wangjiang County, investigating the Shadow Pavilion’s secret movements by Taihu Lake, discerning truth from falsehood amid the conflict between righteous and evil factions, and proving her mettle amid flashing blades.
She is a princess, with her father the emperor and her brothers as a solid backing, and wherever she goes she has the aura of the royal family’s darling. But she is also a rising star of the jianghu, making friends among wandering heroes and outwitting powerful schemers under the name Xiao Lingyue, earning respect through her own abilities. Along the way, she crosses paths several times with a seemingly gentle young man in white whose identity is a mystery. As they test one another, at times enemies and at times allies, feelings quietly take root.
The Shadow Pavilion’s conspiracy gradually comes to light, entangling a century-old conflict between court and jianghu, while her mother’s past holds a shocking twist of its own. She sheds her naivete and, with the authority of a princess, takes the helm of the jianghu, carving a path through the storm with her closest friends and the man she loves.
Who says a princess must be soft and delicate? Watch this formidable young woman make the phoenix’s cry ring across the jianghu. She will protect her family and country, find the one her heart desires, and live a legend all her own.
