History of the British Land System

As the first country in the world to complete the Industrial Revolution, Britain has long been regarded as a typical example of capitalist agriculture. Some scholars also believe that capitalism in Britain and Europe originated from agriculture. But in the past ten years, after reading some books on British agricultural history, I feel that the issues of British agricultural history are very complicated and not as simple as we used to know. For example, land ownership, the internal management methods of large estates, and the scale of the use of wage labor all need to be carefully studied. The organizational form of the British agricultural economy in the capitalist era also needs to be summarized based on the actual situation. The question of whether capitalism originated from agriculture is still under discussion. This book takes the land system as an observation perspective and makes a special study of the development and changes of the British agricultural system since the Middle Ages. Different from the views of previous historians, the author, based on the analysis and research of individual cases such as manors, tenancy systems, landholders, and real estate operations, proposes that Britain began to discover the three-tier agricultural system in the 16th century, and that the British economy did not achieve capitalist homogenization in the capitalist era, and that wage labor relations were not fully formed in all industries. This book has certain reference value for studying the development history of British agricultural economy in the Middle Ages and modern times.
