After waking from a deep sleep, Emperor Yongzheng, Yinzhen, was horrified to discover that he was living in the tearjerker drama Empresses in the Palace! He was about to be forced to follow the script: marry Yixiu, lose Rouze, use Huanyi Incense... and end up utterly alone.
Big-Fat-Orange slammed his hand on the imperial desk. “I refuse to follow this script!”
Reborn once more, he had a refreshingly unconventional goal: no pointless infighting, just focus on nurturing pillars of the state!
And so the plot went completely off the rails:
Yixiu, who was supposed to spend her life fighting for power in the palace, was married off to someone else thanks to one of his “brilliant moves.” She had children, got embroiled in domestic battles, and lived happily ever after.
Wen Shichu, the so-called “master physician of women's ailments,” was matched with Shen Meizhuang ahead of schedule. The young couple devoted themselves to healing the sick and showered everyone with affection.
As for his own harem, its style was even more unconventional: Consort Hua devoted herself to raising children, while Huanyi Incense was scattered and repurposed as air freshener. Consorts Duan and Jing became parenting allies, swapping childcare tips every day.
When it came to selecting consorts, Yinzhen was incredibly “picky”: anyone who looked too much like someone else was eliminated, and anyone too noisy was out. In the end, he chose only Chun'er, a little foodie, on the grounds that “His Majesty's treasury has to save money for raising children!”
This is the story of the Fourth Prince, armed with the script, forcibly turning a tragic romance into a sweet family comedy, while making peace with his brothers and building an age of prosperity.
See how Big Fat Orange leads his “harmonious family” in a warm and hilarious Qing dynasty tale!
