A serial killer organization called the Night Watchers. Its members aren't murderers in the traditional sense. They target evil people beyond the reach of the law, carry out their work with great skill, and leave crime scenes so clean they repeatedly challenge the police and forensic investigators. As protagonist Chen Mo clashes with them, he gradually discovers that his late mentor, a highly respected senior forensic examiner, seems to have deep ties to the Night Watchers.
