The Community's Battle of Wits and Schemes

Muddy Path Synopsis Community director Zheng Wei is determined to rise to the position of Party secretary and secure a permanent public-sector job. To achieve her goal, she enlists Li Guilan, a community resident with a stubborn temperament, and repeatedly obstructs and challenges each newly appointed secretary, hoping to clear the way for her own promotion, but her efforts repeatedly come to nothing. Setbacks at work pile on top of family troubles: her husband has long maintained an improper relationship with someone else, leaving the family atmosphere in constant turmoil. Caught in these two predicaments, Zheng Wei grows increasingly extreme and unbalanced. After a series of poor decisions, she suffers one setback after another and eventually leaves the community, falling into hardship. The repeated blows distort Zheng Wei's mind completely. Unable to free herself from resentment, she sees her life take a sharp downward turn. At last, consumed by endless obsession and paranoia, Zheng Wei suffers a mental breakdown, and her life ends in tragedy. Her story is a stark warning about the far-reaching harm excessive desire and poor choices can inflict on both one's own life and the lives of those nearby. In the end, she turns back from the wrong path and rises to new heights.
