In the twenty-third year of Longchang, the Jia Mansion in Jinling remained prosperous on the outside, but it was already declining inside. Seven-year-old Daiyu went north to join her maternal grandfather's family and grew up with her cousin Baoyu and Sanchun of the Jia family. However, in this seemingly deep courtyard full of flowers, every woman has her own destiny imprisoned by invisible shackles.
The gentle and quiet second girl Yingchun was forced to marry the tyrannical Sun Shaozu and died quietly in despair; the smart and courageous third girl visited spring and married in a foreign land, using her wisdom and tenacity to open up a world in the new environment; the lonely and cold fourth girl Xichun saw through the world of mortals and finally chose the company of the ancient Buddha with a green lantern.
The story is based on the Jia family's transition from prosperity to decline. Through the different fate trajectories of the four golden hairpins, it shows the struggles and choices of ancient women under feudal ethics. In a limited world, they either compromise, fight, or transcend, finding a way out of life in their own way.
