Chen Muyun, from the Department of Sociology at Peking University, uses reason as a shield to try to deconstruct death. However, in an elective course, he meets Su Jianwei, an art student who is afraid of death due to the death of his grandmother. In order to complete the project, the two were forced to go deep into the hospice center: he used data to record the social structure of the end of life, and she used a paintbrush to capture the glimmer of light in the ward. When Chen Muyun insisted on breaking into the funeral parlor and faced the cremation site, Su Jianwei's trauma broke out and the relationship was on the verge of breakdown. But separation allows them to grow separately: he reads awe in ashes, and she dissolves fear in paintings. In the end, they used the research results to create the "Life and Death Education" public welfare project, using young people's methods to spread the hope of living towards death in the shadow of death.
