Prologue: A Dream Lost to Time, a Love Beyond Saving
Amid the turbulent currents of time, some moments shine like brilliant stars, once illuminating our lives. And some emotions are like poems hidden deep in our hearts: we don’t understand them the first time we read them, but the second time, they bring us to tears. The story of I Was Too Young Then is just like that, quietly plucking at the heartstrings.
Youth is a grand feast, where we laugh freely and let our imaginations run wild. The story’s protagonists, Er Dan and Lin Lin, meet in a season of falling snow and grow up together to the sound of bugles in the military camp. Back then, they were like uncarved jade, innocent and lovely, believing their bond would endure like pines and cypresses that stay green through every season.
But fate’s path is always winding. The bugles of war suddenly sound, and Er Dan resolutely heads for the front lines, plunging into a storm of bullets. When she awakens from her injuries and coma and returns, she finds the warm haven she once knew empty. Lin Lin’s family quietly left after a sudden turn of events, leaving behind only endless longing and confusion.
Years later, when the threads of fate intertwine once more, Er Dan hears that Lin Lin has become a hospital director. That phone call spanning mountains and seas seems like one last attempt to hold on to their old bond. But the gulf of time has already quietly opened between them. When they reunite at their old home, beneath their familiar faces lie unfamiliar, complicated expressions and the helplessness of words left unspoken.
This is a story of mourning youth and regretting what was lost. We have all wandered through the fog of youth, thinking time would never run out, never realizing that precious feelings and moments can vanish in an instant. Some missed chances become lifelong regrets!
