The story follows Zhang Xiao, a modern office worker who transmigrates after a car accident to the Kangxi era of the Qing dynasty and becomes a Manchu girl named Maertai Ruoxi. She sees through everyone's fate but cannot control her own ending, and is swept helplessly into the struggle known as the Nine Princes' Contest for the Throne.
