In her previous life, Shen Cixing watched her family fall apart and die. In the end, she died of depression.
After death, she discovered that her soul was still lingering in the human world, but she could only move around the cemetery. Just as she was wondering why, Black and White Impermanence appeared and told her that she wasn't supposed to die. A glitch in the Underworld System had caused her to “die.” There had been too many “ghosts” who had died by accident, and before they could “bring her back to life,” someone had refined her into a ghost.
Feeling guilty, they wanted to give her some compensation?
They told her to wait patiently for the person destined to find her. Once that person arrived, she could choose to be reborn in a new life, and she could pick the year herself.
Shen Cixing: Do you two even hear what you're saying? Does this make any sense? Someone destined to find me? Since when did I have one?
After an unknown amount of time, a man came to her grave, bringing her favorite flowers from when she was alive: cosmos. She knew him. He was the boy from next door who had been her childhood playmate, Si Beiyan.
Si Beiyan looked at the girl's bright smile in the photograph on her gravestone and said, “Little Star, I'm sorry I'm so late. If I'd come back sooner, you wouldn't have had to endure so much pain alone. I've avenged you. It's the last thing I can do for you.”
Just as Shen Cixing stood there, dumbfounded, Black and White Impermanence appeared.
Shen Cixing wanted to return to the time before disaster struck her family and see if she could change their fate. She told Black and White Impermanence that she wanted to go back to age twenty-three. They agreed and even gave her a little stone they'd picked up by the roadside. Who knew that the little stone would turn out to be an “all-purpose System”?
After she was reborn, she used the “little stone” to change her family's fate.
A brainless power fantasy. Don't overthink it.
