The play is adapted from the Japanese classic manga "Ghost of the Game" originally written by Yumi Horita and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It tells the story of Shi Shi's discovery of an ancient chess board by chance, and his introduction to Chu Ying, the first Nanliang Go player who has been entrenched on the chess board for thousands of years. Under his influence, he gradually became interested in Go and was inspired to become a professional Go player.
