Prisoner of the Golden Age: I Love You Regardless of Gender

In the golden age of opera in the 17th century, they were souls imprisoned by fate. Antonio and Carlo were forced to be castrated for their gifted voices, becoming castrati adored by the nobility. From their tender companionship in the choir to their dazzling success on the opera stage, they leaned on each other amid applause and scorn, sinking beneath the chains of convention. One refused to be courted by the powerful for the other's sake; the other kept his secret for a lifetime. Neither their mutilated bodies nor their forbidden identities could extinguish the burning love between them. Through half a century of storms, from bustling Venice to a desolate cemetery, they fought the prejudices of their age and weathered the gossip. In the end, they spent their lives proving that true love knows no gender. Even if they could only be each other's secret prisoners, they would stay together until they were buried in the same plot of earth.
