Synopsis

Su Qingyuan, a modern web-novel writing machine, stays up all night finishing the finale of her palace-intrigue novel. When she opens her eyes, she has become a minor concubine in her own story, a disposable character who doesn’t survive three chapters! Even worse, the “Palace Intrigue Comeback System” has barely come online before it gives her a deadly mission: seduce Xiao Che, the cold-faced emperor who treats power games as his lifeblood and kills without batting an eye, on the very first day she enters the palace!

Looking at the harem full of concubines she wrote as “villains through and through,” Su Qingyuan can only roll her eyes at the System three hundred times. There’s Consort Shu, gentle on the surface but hiding poisoned needles; Consort Xian, seemingly devoted to prayer but in control of an intelligence network; and the ambitious Noble Consort. Even an inconspicuous palace maid might be a spy. Relying on her “inside knowledge” of the plot and a writer’s knack for thinking outside the box, Su Qingyuan complains to the System and outwits it at every turn, all while fighting to survive amid deadly intrigue.

Only after reaching the heart of power does she realize she has long been the most important piece on the board, and that the mastermind has been watching from the shadows since the very beginning, waiting for her to enter the game. From taking blows to striking back, Su Qingyuan tears into scheming white lotuses and kicks obstacles out of her way. More than that, she must break free of the System and the shackles of the plot! As the truth behind her transmigration into a book, the emperor’s true feelings, and a series of shocking reversals collide, she is determined to forge a new path in this ravenous harem, one that no one else gets to define. Who says a disposable character can’t rise to become a harem power player? Who says someone transmigrated into a book has to follow the script? In this palace-intrigue game, I make the rules!

Looking for something like "Dancing in Lamplight." Palace intrigue and political scheming (like "Dancing in Lamplight"): the female lead battles the palace and then the enemy nation, matching wits with them at every turn. It's absolutely riveting!

Light and Enjoyable Palace-Intrigue Novels Worth Rereading

Looking for books similar to The Empress. This book isn't as full of dramatic twists and turns as Empresses in the Palace, but it has the same gently unfolding everyday life as The Story of Minglan. It isn't as sorrowful and bittersweet as Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, but it shares The Story of Minglan's wisdom about women. Although it takes place in the imperial harem,
