The fictional historical period is between the "Xuanqi Dynasty" (fallen in 12 years) and the "Dayan Dynasty" (newly established), similar to the split pattern of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms: the Dayan Dynasty only controlled the core areas of the Central Plains (Luoyang, Chang'an), and was surrounded by seven major vassal towns such as Weibo, Wuyue, and Jiannan. The Xuanqi Dynasty was overthrown due to the "Secret Rebellion". Almost all members of the royal family were slaughtered. Only a few orphans were hiding among the people. The old members of the dynasty were scattered all over the country, waiting for opportunities to return to the country.
