This is a soulful work about sacrifice and hope, destruction and rebirth, personal destiny and national destiny. It tells us: heroes are not born, but are tempered in blood and fire; New China does not fall from the sky, but is built by thousands of ordinary people with their lives and sweat.
I would like to dedicate this book to all the ordinary people who stood up in times of national crisis, and to all the unknown people who built New China on the ruins. Their stories should be remembered; their spirit should be passed on.
