In the winter of 1930, Xue Shouyi, a hawker, met Guanyin in a dream and found a baby gifted by Guanyin. The next day, he found an abandoned baby in pink swaddling clothes and named it "Nian En", thus laying down the family line of "Nian En". Since then, the warlords fought, the war of resistance against the United States and the Korean War, and the Xue family has always been based on "goodness": Shouyi walked in the streets and abided by the "three no's" rules, and took the risk of being a liaison officer of the Eighth Route Army; Nian'en hid medicine for the Eighth Route Army when he was a boy, abandoned the city and returned to his hometown as an adult, and went to Korea to fight. The peach trees in the courtyard were planted according to Xiulan's last wish and then flourished and bore fruit. They witnessed the farewell and reunion, sacrifice and growth of the Xue family, and also reflected the warmth of the people of Baoding Prefecture helping each other in the torrent of the times. The book is divided into four volumes: "roots, stems, flowers, and fruits", closely interweaving personal family ties with family and country interests, and writing an epic of the times in which ordinary people regard kindness as their bones and love as their soul.
