Du Yuesheng and Lin Guisheng

Half the legends of Shanghai's underworld are tied to her. Huang Jinrong rose to prominence because of her, and Du Yuesheng made his name with her help. She was Lin Guisheng, founder of the Green Gang and Shanghai's widely acknowledged “Godmother.” With extraordinary resolve and intelligence, she built an empire in a man's world, only to be betrayed in marriage at the height of her power and cast out with nothing. Yet the truly strong can rise from the ruins. She lived through three eras, witnessed every twist of fate, and reached the age of 104. This is not the story of the woman behind a gang boss, but of the true “power behind the throne” of all the gang bosses. Hers is a century-long story of power, human nature, and resilience.
