Transmigrate into a Dream Within a Dream of the Red Chamber: Xueyan Breaks the Deadlock

The novel is built around a “dream within a dream.” The outer layer is a “transmigration dream,” in which a modern girl dies unexpectedly and her soul falls into the world of Dream of the Red Chamber. The inner layer is Cao Xueqin’s original Dream of the Red Chamber, in which the stone enters the mortal world and all things return to emptiness. The heroine knows full well that she is inside an illusory dream destined to end with “a vast expanse of whiteness, clean and pure,” and her arrival becomes a second twist nested within this great dream. The story opens at the moment Daiyu first enters the Rongguo Mansion. The heroine transmigrates as Xueyan, Daiyu’s personal maid, who came with her from Suzhou, is only ten years old, and is dismissed by Grandmother Jia as “all childishness.” With the complete ending of Dream of the Red Chamber in hand, she knows the Jia family is doomed to fall and understands the fate awaiting Daiyu, who will die after shedding all her tears. Determined to protect Daiyu, she breaks free of the limitations of her role as a maid and secretly weaves a network, bringing together the most vibrant and resourceful outsiders in the story. Xueyan, Xiaohong, Jia Yun, and Ni Er form an alliance to change their fate. Amid the glittering illusion of wealth and grandeur, they lay the groundwork for a way to survive and escape disaster, turning their destined ending around. Within the predetermined dream of Dream of the Red Chamber, they forge a dream within a dream that refuses to follow the script.
