The Shadow Guard Always Wants to Run Away

The Shadow Guard Always Wants to Run Away weaves together two intertwined destinies, linked across time. A thousand years ago, in the Prince of Jing’an’s manor, the shadow guard Xu Qing’an accidentally learns that he comes from a world outside the book. He also discovers that Gu Jinyuan is destined to be framed and forced to drink poison wine. Armed with memories of modern life, he defies fate amid the treacherous currents of court politics, determined to rewrite what has already been decided. As the Second Prince’s forged evidence and the Imperial Guard’s encirclement close in, he stands before Prince Jing’an, the hem of his black robe in view, blade in hand, and challenges the turning wheel of fate with nothing but his mortal body.

Maple leaves fall at the same time in both eras. On a moonlit flight of steps, Gu Jinyuan and Xu Qing’an, inside and outside the book, search for the true meaning of love and redemption, with regret and fulfillment reflected in one another. Some promises can cross a thousand years, bringing warmth to every long wait.
