Gu Ying learned to dance Nuo opera from his grandfather. Grandpa always said, "Nuo opera masks cannot be worn after midnight, otherwise the 'mask shadow' will haunt you." It wasn't until her grandfather passed away that she found a red mask she had never seen before when she was sorting out the masks. The inside of the mask said "Save Me", and the pattern on the mask was exactly the same as the pattern that her grandfather drew on the paper before he died.
The old artist in the village told her: "This mask hides your grandfather's consciousness. In order to suppress the 'evil spirits' in the village, he sealed his soul into the mask." Gu Ying followed the old artist's instructions and put on a red mask at midnight. Suddenly he saw his grandfather's figure: "The evil spirits are coming out. Only you can complete the 'exorcism dance' wearing the mask." That night, the ancestral hall in the village suddenly turned on the lights, and Gu Ying wore a red mask and performed a Nuo opera. The lines on the mask slowly turned into runes to ward off evil spirits.
