Moonlight Over Wu Wang

The thing Yun Qingyue regretted most in her life was saving Xie Wuwang in Blackwind Forest, where he was being chased all over the mountains by a demon beast.

This “frail” wandering cultivator, who had nothing going for him except his face, stuck to her from that day on. She practiced swordsmanship while he brewed tea nearby; she exorcised demons while he hid behind her, waving a flag and cheering; she sought enlightenment beneath the moon while he slept soundly with his head on a slab of blue stone, even mumbling in his sleep and disturbing her peace.

She was devoted to the Dao and thought this man was the biggest obstacle on her path to immortality. He was an endless source of annoyance.

But at some point, she grew used to his warmth at her side. She grew used to the cup of tea he handed her, to his seemingly idle “sleep talk” that always managed to point out the key to her cultivation, and, most of all, to looking back whenever danger struck and finding him standing there with a reassuring smile.

They journeyed from the lower realm to the Immortal Domain, facing thorny paths side by side. She thought she was the one protecting him, until she finally realized he had been brushing the dust from her journey and shielding her from every storm along the way.

Only when the myriad demons knelt before him was his identity revealed: he was an immortal sovereign who had lived in seclusion. Before the gods and Buddhas of the heavens, he held out his hand to her. His eyes held a sea of stars, yet reflected only her. “Qingyue, have I walked this road beside you long enough? For the rest of our lives, will you walk with me?”

What she did not know was that the warning of fate had never faded from the unremarkable jade pendant at his waist: “Heavenly revelation: she will be the one to end your eternal life.”

He looked at those words and merely smiled, holding her even closer.

Knowing it is a tribulation, he chooses to fall all the same. He stakes eternity on a single moment of your deep love.
