Troubled times are coming, and wars are rising everywhere. The once peaceful small town in the south of the Yangtze River became a purgatory on earth overnight. The half-baked gangster Wang Dachun, together with the down-and-out daughter Lin Xiaoci, the veteran soldier Lao Yangtou, the old martial arts master Zhang Yidao, the clever orphan Xiao Shitou, and the businessman Cao Liujin, struggled to survive while on the run, avoiding the flames of war, and competing with various forces. They accidentally got involved in a conspiracy related to the fate of the country, and continued to make choices when faced with the intersection of life, family, friendship and dreams. Underneath the seemingly cynical and absurd journey, there is a persistence of warmth, ideals, survival and struggle hidden. Under the intertwining of successive dislocation conflicts, absurd comedy and cruel reality, they finally achieved their own legends, kept their inner beliefs, and gained something more precious than laughter in troubled times.
