Falling Leaves of the Wutong Tree

A love story between a down-on-his-luck young master and a young woman in government service.

“Plant the phoenix trees, and you’ll come back.”, Shen Xingyu

“Let me think about it... Well, I suppose I can do you the favor of marrying you!”, Qian Qiuwu

One leaf reveals the phoenix tree; my heart is filled with you.

On a moonlit campus path, a withered yellow leaf brings together two young hearts. He is a gentle yet steadfast young master, driving away her fears in the darkness and treasuring the time they spend side by side in a fallen leaf. She is a lively, playful “phoenix tree,” quietly falling for him beneath the moonlight and planting a seed of longing with the words, “Perhaps we’ll meet again if fate allows.”

Walking together in the cool night breeze, hesitating to speak beneath the dormitory building, and the warm spark when their fingertips touch: in the silence, their innocent feelings quietly take root. There are no grand declarations of love, only constant companionship; no earth-shaking vows, only tenderness hidden in their eyes.

This is a sweet, heartwarming encounter that begins with fallen leaves and moonlight, a story about the purest kind of young love and the one-of-a-kind romance of feeling that “after meeting you, all the world’s troubles can be cast aside.” It turns out the best kind of fate was quietly sealed the moment that leaf fell.
