After Bearing the Fallen General’s Posthumous Child, I Was Terrified

Xie Yan, the young general famed throughout the land, is dead, his body lost without a trace. The General’s household offers a huge reward for his belongings. Even clothes he wore are worth five taels of silver. My eyes lit up. Clutching my belly and Xie Yan’s farewell letter, I dropped to my knees at the general’s gate. “I’m carrying the young general’s posthumous child. How much is that worth?” Madam Xie was skeptical. “Stay here for now. We’ll talk after the baby is born.” I confidently walked through the gate. After all, three months ago, when Xie Yan and I were swept up in passion, I was wide awake and watching. It was definitely him. There was no way to fake that. But who could have guessed… I was only five months along when my belly started moving. In the middle of the night, Madam Xie rushed out in alarm to find a midwife. The moment she left, my waters broke. Five wolf cubs came tumbling out, slick with blood. My legs shook uncontrollably with fright. “How… how are they wolves?!”
