My Man, My King

Su Tang was overwhelmed by a landmark cultural center project when the client suddenly demanded a radical new feature: a “Tree of Life” art installation that could interact emotionally with its audience. With the deadline looming, she was nearly desperate. Then an anonymous proposal landed in front of her, one that perfectly blended architecture’s beauty

The design really was stunning. After a great deal of effort, she tracked down its creator, the “King,” Lu Chen. The two began working closely together on the project. Lu Chen’s talent impressed Su Tang. He could always solve the most complex problems with the simplest logic, like an anchor holding everything steady. What moved her even more was how he respected every decision she made and never overstepped. When she was tired, he would bring her a cup of coffee at just the right temperature. When she worked late, he would quietly adjust the office lights to the most comfortable setting for her eyes.

Their feelings grew as they tackled the project together. Su Tang realized that Lu Chen’s “King” was not about being above everyone else, but about having complete command of his field and a gentle understanding of the world. He designed a smart pendant lamp whose lights and shadows changed with her mood. He remembered a childhood regret she had mentioned in passing and gave her a projector that could recreate the night sky of her childhood.
