She can empathize with spirits who have been dead for a thousand years and soothe their lingering obsessions. She trusts logical profiling and can see into people's hearts. A bizarre “Sending Off the Royal Ship” case forces two exceptional women together. Is a perfectly preserved corpse in clothes from seventy years ago the result of an ancient curse or a carefully planned murder?
Lin Qingyun, a “couldn't-care-less” restorer from Taipei, can touch ancient objects and empathize with the past. She survives on milk tea to keep the noise in her mind at bay. Lu Mingzhou, a rational profiler from Changbai Mountain, is a walking lie detector who believes in data and despises anything unscientific.
These two women from opposite ends of the country seem like a poor match, but after investigating a series of bizarre cases, including the notes of a Shaoxing legal adviser and mythical beasts “resurrected” in Tang Dynasty murals, they become bound together for good.
When the mastermind finally emerges, Lu Mingzhou takes a potentially fatal blow meant for Lin Qingyun. Only then does she understand:
“Lin Qingyun, you are the one flaw in all my logical deductions.”
“And the most irrational exception in my rational life.”
Across the strait and through a thousand years, the mystery they must solve is not just a cold case, but a shocking conspiracy buried deep in the roots of their culture.
It's super good-looking, and it feels like a ghost blowing a lamp. The author is very good at writing, has a lot of imagination, and has a great sense of imagery. I really like the milk tea scene. I recommend everyone to watch it together.
