Cultivation Without Cheats: Starting with an Empty Stomach

Others cultivate through talent, fortuitous encounters, or dreams sent by a mysterious old master. Shi Ya’s first step is digging up rock yams so he won’t starve to death; his second is protecting himself from vicious servants so they won’t rob him; his third is practicing the Stonehide Scripture so wild beasts won’t devour him. No immortal fortune falls from the sky, only a slender chance of survival pried from the cracks in the rocks. There are no easy breakthroughs, only grueling trials that strip away a layer of skin and spill a bowl of blood.

On a snowy day in Blackstone Village, he fights a starving wolf over half a frozen bun. At the apothecary in Graystone Town, he scraps with laborers for medicinal dregs to train his body. In the forest beside a spirit spring, he keeps watch for three days just to borrow a mouthful of spiritual water, daring to approach only after a rogue cultivator suffers a cultivation deviation. Cultivation has never meant “pursuing the Great Dao” to him. It is an instinct for survival: when his meridians hurt so badly he wants to kill himself, he bites through his tongue and endures; when his cultivation resources are stolen, he risks half his life to take them back. When others deceive and bully him, or leave him to die, he carves “survive” into his bones and uses his mortal body to fight his way onto the immortal path.

There is no absolute good or evil, only hard choices made by the downtrodden as they struggle to survive. There is no single leap to the top, only a desperate fight for life with bloodshed at every step. Watch Shi Ya go from a starving peasant to someone who trades his life for strength and pain for growth, carving out his own path of cultivation in a world where cultivators devour one another!
